As far as my floor-mates are concerned, I am a spy from an unidentifiable country unable to truly harness an authentic American accent. Won't stop me from trying, though.

This morning

This morning I woke up to a loud crash overhead. It was one of many nights where I had slept in the basement, so the crash was in the kitchen. We had just gotten new doors from the last break-in, but we hadn’t updated any security systems yet. We used to have a dog as our security system. When she was gone, there was a break-in through the kitchen door, which had huge glass panels that they could have lifted up to get inside. They didn’t need to smash the thing.

I checked my watch. The illumination hurt my eyes for a moment, but when they focused I could make out that it was 4:33.23 in the morning. The smash I heard sounded like it was glass. The new door was glass. I bolted up, and was about to run upstairs, but stopped. What if the people were armed? I ran over to the work-bench area and got one of my brother’s old bats—an Easton 26 in, 20 oz. T-bat. It was metal, but quite light.  With the bat and a blanket (which I figured I could throw in the face of the person so as to blind them while I move to take the swing) I headed quietly up the stairs.

As I approached the light, I heard nothing aside from some scuffling. It was quite a crash—maybe they had high-tailed it out of the house. When I found the top step, I peered around the side wall and found the kitchen door open. Behind it, my brother popped up and looked at me, then at the ground. He’d smashed a pot of casserole.

"You know when sometimes you meet someone so beautiful and then you actually talk to them and five minutes later they’re as dull as a brick? Then there’s other people, when you meet them you think, "Not bad. They’re okay." And then you get to know them and… and their face just sort of becomes them. Like their personality’s written all over it. And they just turn into something so beautiful."-Amelia Pond

I’d love to go, but I’ve got a date with an older gentleman tonight. His name is William. That’s what I get for being an English Major.

Some of us climbed up the highest rocks, but I didn’t bring my camera up when I went because its safety would be compromised.
